THELMA - BLUE TORTOISE

During the summer of 2018, MessyWeekend partnered with environmental NGO 4 The Planet to found the "ORIGINES" project. The initiative is determined to design a sustainable cleaning of plastic waste in the Colombian Pacific and is funded by sales of MessyWeekend sunglasses and ski goggles. Our pilot project focuses on the remote city of Timbiqui, in the Colombian jungle, which collects tons of plastic waste on its shores. The first contract between 4 The Planet and MessyWeekend ensured the cleaning of 125 tons of plastic waste before 2022, with a product 1 = 10 Kg of waste removed from the Pacific.

Our 2019 contract with 4 The Planet works with a 1 = 2 Kg deal as we are now focusing on building a sustainable full circle solution to handle and process plastic waste after it is collected. This implies a significant investment in an on-site waste management facility, so our commitment is 2 Kg. The donation for each product sold MessyWeekend is exactly the same, the difference is that 4 The Planet is working more politically and within from local societies to inspire real change.
